On the road at the Beyond Tellerrand
Our colleague Holger attended the exciting developer and design conference in Düsseldorf in May on behalf of sitegeist – and brought back lots of inspiring input.

This time, I had the pleasure of attending #btconf 2018 in Düsseldorf — a chance to listen to inspiring and innovative talks by extraordinary people from around the world.
Today’s agenda included fascinating topics like the W3C Standard Web Annotations, based on RDFa or JSON-LD. This new standard now allows us to make annotations on websites or specific website sections. The tools are there — it’s up to us to make something great with them.

There were talks on the development of emphatic robots, stop-motion animations from Egypt and company-wide self-organization.
Vic Lee, an illustrator from the UK, shared powerful stories about how big things can grow from small beginnings. One example: he was commissioned to create a small illustration for museums in London — for just £300, which didn’t even cover his costs. But he thought, “Hey, it’s for Tate Modern!” — one of the world’s most prestigious galleries.
Fast forward to today: Vic now has his own stand at Tate Modern, participates in product sales, and his original illustration remains the best-selling item in the museum shop — for years now. He even has his own exhibition for eight years at the gallery. Chapeau!
... and of course, DJ Tobi returned with his btconf remix, delivering the perfect musical atmosphere throughout the conference.

In addition to many other great talks on topics such as data visualization, design and CSS hacks, my highlights this year were Kate Dawkins ' talks on live projections and Mike Monteiro's, who made all web creators and companies aware of their responsibility towards humanity in his indescribable way. This year was rounded off with an overview of the prototyping tool Adobe Xd.
