Blood donation with the German Red Cross at the sitegeist office

This time, we weren’t the ones out and about – instead, we welcomed the German Red Cross (DRK) to our own halls.

Today, we’re not sharing a story about where we’ve been on tour. Today is about the DRK, which visited us in our large conference room. And the 4-hour appointment wasn’t for a client meeting – we hosted a blood donation drive.

How it all began:

Like so many things at sitegeist, it started with a simple idea and the desire to help others. On June 14, 2022 – World Blood Donor Day, it became clear that there was an urgent need for blood donations. There are so many good intentions, but our calendars are always packed. So we asked ourselves: Is there a way to integrate this into our workday?

Well, with over 70 team members, we thought it had to be possible to collect a few donations. We started researching the requirements for hosting a mobile blood drive. According to the DRK, at least 45 donors were needed. After conducting an internal survey, we weren’t entirely sure we could hit that number. But giving up wasn’t an option – so we partnered with another company in our building and the gym downstairs. The lead time was quite long, but as they say: good things take time.

The setup:

We promoted the event throughout the building with posters provided by the DRK. A QR code made it easy to book appointments online.

Finally, on February 23, 2023, the day arrived! The DRK arrived with trucks and rolled containers right through our halls.

  • Our beach lounge became the check-in area.
  • Two workrooms were repurposed for hemoglobin testing and medical checkups/blood pressure measurements.
  • But the biggest transformation took place in our large conference room, where the tables made way for donation beds.

The friendly DRK staff took great care of everyone and helped calm any nerves. At the end, each donor received a snack pack to keep their energy levels up – plus plenty of drinks, because staying hydrated is key on donation day.

The result

Once again, an idea turned into a plan – and a plan into action.

We ended up with 50 blood donors during our half-day event – a success we largely attribute to everyone’s reliability in keeping their appointment slots. Some even decided to donate spontaneously.
