Shopware 6.4: the biggest release since the publication of Shopware 6

A lot has happened since the release of Shopware 6 at the beginning of 2020. In May 2021, the final release of version 6.4 came out, with many new features and improvements.

What's new in Shopware version 6.4?

The first thing you notice after logging in to Shopware Backend is the slightly different arrangement of content. Under the menu item "Extensions" you will now find direct access to the store, the installed plugins and themes and the link to the Shopware account. The menu in Backend has not only been made clearer, but also optimized in terms of colors and functions. The menu no longer collapses so quickly and you can open any number of submenus at the same time.

A long-awaited feature, the wish list, which was standard in Shopware 5, is now finally included in the base version of Shopware 6.4. You can now activate the wish list in the shopping cart settings.

The watch list is now available in the product overview as well as on the item detail page and in the shopping cart. Your customers can now add products and variants to an individual wish list and mark them for later purchase.

The new CMS features allow store operators to adapt or expand the layouts of product and product overview pages without any programming knowledge. This individualization of the product pages allows customers to be addressed even more specifically and convinced of the benefits of the products. The option of displaying "starting prices" for variant articles is now also a very good enhancement. Previously, only one price range was displayed in the store (from - to). With Shopware 6.4, only the best selling price, i.e. the lowest price, is now displayed.

There are also new features in the search function. The user-defined search index and the ranking now allow the store operator to adapt the search to the customer's needs. The search terms can now be linked either AND or OR. Furthermore, you can determine which fields or which individual attributes should be taken into account for the search.

Currency-specific price rounding is essential for international stores. This is now also possible with the current version of Shopware. Shopware now offers a flexible option to use currency-dependent rounding procedures.

The content on the experience worlds can now be designed even more individually. The Rich Text Editor can now also use variables that act as placeholders. This makes it possible to reuse generic texts and play them out automatically depending on the situation. Placeholders such as product names, category names or category descriptions are possible.

A lot has also happened in the Frontend store. UX/UI optimizations in the checkout, such as the quick selection of payment methods. An easy-to-use checkout increases conversion. As part of the optimization, the number of clicks required in the checkout process has been reduced. From version 6.4, all payment methods are directly visible to the customer.

Version 6.4 also offers some new features for technicians that need to be considered during development, but also makes life more convenient in many areas. One of the breaking changes is the update to Composer 2, where the composer.json should be adapted accordingly so that the plugins continue to work. The update to Symfony 5.2 can also lead to potential problems with existing plugins. With the new release, PHP 7.4 is now the minimum requirement. And for those who dare. Shopware 6.4 is now PHP 8 compatible according to Shopware.

There are many more features and extensions, such as the form configurator (Form Builder). At
