In December 2016, sitegeist was commissioned to relaunch a value-added portal for a northern German financial services provider. This customer loyalty portal offers clients access to a wide range of ongoing and seasonal privileges.

The Project

The project was carried out in close cooperation with an international team from our long-standing partner Tenerity.

“Shopware, with its robust framework and flexible customization options, was the ideal tool for such a solution”, says Holger Weß, Senior Project Manager at sitegeist. Another key factor in choosing Shopware was its German origin — the manufacturer Shopware AG is regarded as a reliable partner offering excellent support.

The new value-added experience platform was launched in May 2017.

In this project, Shopware served as an all-in-one solution — managing both the eCommerce functions and content administration. It became the central hub for driving customer loyalty.

The project had high technical demands due to a complex digital infrastructure and customized feature set. Requirements included:

  • Integration of internal systems via Single Sign-On (SSO)
  • Stringent security standards
  • Customizations for call center operations and backend workflows

Shopware’s core functionalities were significantly extended to meet the specific needs of this loyalty tool. Tenerity also needed a streamlined order processing system, which was implemented with several backend adjustments to optimize processes for the Tenerity call center.

To enhance the user experience, several advanced features were added:

  • A geo-based offer and benefit finder
  • A wallet-integrated virtual membership card, allowing customers to carry their card on their smartphone
  • Push notifications based on the customer’s GPS location, highlighting nearby offers and benefits in real time
