Sitegeist.Archaeopteryx
The missing link-editor for Neos
Editing links is really easy with CMS - you might naively think. Neos proves you right by allowing you to edit links in a text field with an autocomplete option by default. It could hardly be simpler.
This solution is indeed really simple, but we have found that it becomes difficult as soon as the web pages get bigger. It then quickly happens that the complete function suggests a lot of options to the editor and it is difficult to select the desired link target without further information.
A common example is the linking of general pages with titles such as "Overview" that occur several times. Here the editor often wants to select the overview page of a certain area and the selection from all pages with a similar title is quickly perceived as annoying.
Our solution Sitegeist.Archaeopteryx offers a link dialog instead of an input field, which offers a suitable interface for selection depending on the type of link target. For example, a page is linked via the page tree while files are selected via the media module.

Archaeopteryx allows documents (pages), files, external URLs, mail addresses and telephone numbers to be linked to a special interface. This is particularly popular with editors in larger projects.
It's not always the simplest interface that's best, but the interface that best suits the task. Nevertheless, it is always nice to see how far we get with Neos with the principle of "simple operation" and how rarely we have to make the user interface a little more complex, as in this case.
In such cases, our package can be used as a 1:1 replacement for the existing link editors and is of course open source and publicly available.
