Consulting: Finding the Right Shop System for Pentel
The collaboration between sitegeist and Pentel began with a kick-off meeting in the agency offices of sitegeist after an initial telephone meeting. During the kick-off meeting, the customer's needs were recorded and possible stumbling blocks identified in order to find a store system that met the individual requirements.
One requirement was that the store system should be easily integrated into the company's existing system landscape. The system landscape was still under construction in several places, which is why coordination with the service provider about the company's needs and internal workflows was the basis for the project. The system should offer a variety of interfaces for extensions or adaptations that may need to be made in the future.
The store system also had to match the size of the SKUs and the nature of the product portfolio with different product designs (including colors and line widths). The product portfolio in the online store is expected to comprise around 360 SKUs in the long term and is made up of standard products from the catalog as well as exclusive store products such as product sets put together especially for the store. To get the products into the store initially, an importer had to be developed.
After all the requirements had been collected and evaluated, Shopware 6 was chosen as the store system.
Product Showcase Without Checkout Functionality
Pentel's goal was to position itself in a future-oriented and competitive manner in the area of e-commerce in order to optimally meet the challenges of digitalization. In addition to an end customer-oriented online presence for the brand, the aim was to design a future-oriented technical basis and enable efficientre Ablpurchases.
In contrast to conventional store solutions, the end customer was to be presented with a product showcase without the option of making a direct purchase in the store. In order to meet this requirement, the basic function of Shopware 6 had to be adapted, as Shopware has integrated functions for completing purchases as standard, which had to be explicitly expanded for this purpose. For example, functions such as the shopping cart, checkout, account area and notepad are not required. After extensive analysis and coordination between Pentel and sitegeist as to which functions should be available in the store and which should not, an individual programmatic solution was implemented.
